KMDI - Knowledge Media Design Institute

Knowledge media are building blocks of a knowledge society

Media Generator

The co-curricular models of a previous generation-- the college newspaper and radio station (whose content includes news, music, sports, and public affairs programming)--continue to engage students today. While we don't believe that these tradtional media are dead, or even dying, Media Generator@UTM provides an exciting opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students interested in the future of media to work with a group of undergraduates rethinking student media. How might these media be extended, or transformed by the turn to the digital? Powered by student imagination, MediaGenerator provides a broadcasting and production studio for the digital age providing students with the tools to invent the future. This student-led, faculty supported initiative of the Institute of Communication and Culture (ICC) and the Knowledge Media Design Institute (KMDI) is funded by the Provost's Student Experience Fund.

Media Generator Research Assistants:

MediaGenerator@UTM is designed to foster and promote student production, distribution, and experimentation with digital media with the help of four University of Toronto graduate student facilitators. Research Assistants oversee, advise, and facilitate student production, distribution, and experimentation with media as well as oversee and advise Media Generator work study students in web design and information design. RAs are graduate students with expertise in the design and production of a variety of digital or knowledge media and the use of knowledge media technologies.

Further information is available on the Media Generator site.
